Main Czech post office 🏤 @ceska_posta
Amazing history of this place:
According to the first reports, in the 14th century, there was the apothecary garden 🌱of Angelus of Florence, a court doctor of Charles IV👑. After its founder, it was named Angel Garden.
From the 18th century there was a celestial monastery💒, then a tobacco factory. In 1870 the monastery building was demolished to give free space for the construction of a new building of the post office and telegraph📮📯. In 1900 the courtyard of the post office was covered with a roof.
In 1901 walls of the building were decorated with allegorical drawings “Mail and Transport” by Vítězslav Karel Mašek, a professor of decorative art. Figures and images symbolize postal, transport and telegraph services of that time📯📬.
In the following years, the building was extended, and during the 20th century it has been reconstructed for several times.
The building of the Main Post Office was declared as a national cultural monument in 1998.
On the first floor you may visit the exposition about the history of the building (free of charge💸).
Despite the fact that the Main Czech post office is located in such a beautiful and historically significant building, nowadays you can get a lot of modern services here📩📬. I will tell you about them next time.
To be continued… 🚫 Attention! It’s prohibited to take pictures inside the building.
